MSMD: Candy Sprinkle Nails

Monday, April 29, 2013

Happy Monday! Its time for another Monkey See, Monkey Do post. For today's manicure, I got inspired by TotallyCoolNails to recreate her Easy Candy Sprinkle Nails. I love the colors she used and its a great manicure to wear for the Spring/Summer. Her video tutorials are great to watch to easily recreate many of her nail art manicures too.

I used Barielle Do Unto Others as my base color for my thumb and ring finger. Then for the rest of my nails, I used Barielle Gotta Have Fate. For the sprinkles, I used Sinful Colors Folly, Jessica Tangerine Dreamz, American Apparel Manila, China Glaze Starboard, Barielle A Bouquet For Ava, and Barielle Welcome Ohm. Then I dotted on Sally Hansen White On. Lastly, I applied my Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat to smooth out the manicure and to add some shine.

I love how this turned out! I didn't have a stripper polish or a stripper brush so I just used my dotting tool and stippled on the sprinkle shapes. This is such a fun manicure that I want to try it out with different colors now. Would you wear this?

Don't forget to check out the other MSMD manicures below!

The Nail Challenge Collaborative - Pastels Week 4

Saturday, April 27, 2013

Good morning! This is my 4th and last manicure for The Nail Challenge Collaborative theme of pastels. Its been fun trying to get creative with my nail colors that I'm excited for the next challenge I can participate in. Let's see what I did to finish this month's theme!

I went with a simple floral accent with some dots. For my base color, I used China Glaze Re-Fresh Mint. For the flowers, I used China Glaze Lemon Fizz and Sally Hansen Lavender Cloud. Please excuse my ring finger, I broke the nail so I had to file it down but I kept all my other nails the same length since I didn't want to grow them all out again.

I think it turned out okay. It's not my best work though since I had trouble making the little flowers. I need to practice on that.

Also, I wanted to let you guys know I got a part time job! Its really close to where I live so I'm happy. I'm starting training today so I'm keeping my fingers crossed I do well. I'll still be regularly posting as much as I can though. Just wanted to share the good news with you all.

Jessica Tangerine Dreamz

Friday, April 26, 2013

Hello! Today, I'll be showing you guys the only Jessica Custom Nail Color I own. I got this nail polish from a blog sale a while back but I really like the formula and color that I plan on getting more from this brand in the future.

Jessica Tangerine Dreamz is a light creme orange. I love this color because its a softer almost pastel orange compared to the brighter oranges out there. It really compliments my skin tone too. Formula was on the thicker side but was easy to work with. I have two coats on.

Hard Candy Sky

Wednesday, April 24, 2013

Hi guys! Today, I'm going to show everyone the only Hard Candy polish I own right now. I know that there's a new line of nail polishes Hard Candy recently released so I'm really interested in trying those out. From what I've seen from other nail bloggers, they look awesome.

Hard Candy Sky is a light blue with a darker blue shimmer to it. The shimmer is really subtle on the nails but in the sunlight, you can tell. I love the color but the formula was a thin and watery so it made application streaky. I applied three coats below.

What do you think of this color? Also, any particular colors I should pick up from their new nail polish line?

Sally Hansen White On

Tuesday, April 23, 2013

Hi everyone! Summer vacation is coming for me and I'm not attending classes in the summer since the new program I applied to doesn't start until the Fall. So, I'm trying to get a summer job to keep me busy and to earn a little extra spending money. Its been a little hard though. Anyway, here's a staple color I have to show.

Sally Hansen White On is a creme white. This is actually the only white I own. For some reason, I don't have much variety in staple colors like this one. Formula and application was good, though I have to say it can get streaky if your not careful. This was three coats.

MSMD: Polka Dot Spirals

Monday, April 22, 2013

Happy Earth Day! I've decided to join the Monkey See, Monkey Do challenge hosted by the Crumpet's Nail Tarts. This challenge is to recreate another person's manicure and share your version of it every Monday.

Today's manicure is inspired by MissJenFABULOUS. I'm recreating her polka dot spirals from her video, Easy Nail Art For Beginners #3. Its the 2nd manicure featured in the video. You know I've been crazy about dotting and that particular manicure was all about dotting so I knew I had to try it out.

I used Sally Hansen White On as my base color. For the dots, I used Sinful Colors Folly, Orly Ancient Jade, Zoya Kimber, and Orly Rage. I think it turned out pretty good. I had trouble keeping everything even and spaced out but other than that, it was easy to recreate.

Expect more nail art manicures in the future from me! I've been watching a lot nail art tutorials so I'm planning on recreating more designs plus I bought a DIY Nail Art Book so I'm waiting for that to come in the mail. What do you think of this design?

The Nail Challenge Collaborative - Pastels Week 3

Sunday, April 21, 2013

Happy Sunday! Here's my 3rd manicure for The Nail Challenge Collaborative. Its another dotting design since its the only tool I have to use. I've really loved the polka dot gradient manicure I did before so I decided to do another one.

This one is a little different though since its a reverse version of it. Instead of having the dots concentrated on the tips of the nails, I decided to start it near the base of my nails instead. It gives the manicure a different effect from the original version.

For my base color, I used Jessica Tangerine Dreamz. Then with a dotting tool, I dotted on Sally Hansen White On and Orly Ancient Jade. Lastly, I applied my OPI Top Coat to smooth out the manicure and to add shine.

I love this design so much! Its one of my favorites I've done and its so easy to do. Would you wear it?

Reverse Glitter Gradient with OPI Rainbow Connection

Saturday, April 20, 2013

Hey everyone! I recently saw a post from Amber at The Nail Graffiti on a really cute manicure she did. It inspired me to try it out and give my own twist on it. You can see her post here.

Its a reverse glitter gradient where you concentrate the majority of the glitter near the base of the nails and fade it downwards halfway on the nails. I chose a lighter color combination than hers but both have the same overall effect. Its perfect for a beginner who wants to change up their manicure but without the hassle of buying any extra tools to make a design.

I used OPI Rainbow Connection, a fun rainbow glitter in different shapes and sizes for the glitter gradient. The majority of the glitter seems to be silver but it does have other colors in it like green, blue, orange, purple, yellow, etc glitters in it too. I layered it over OPI Its My Year.

This manicure is so shiny! Love it! Have you sported the reverse glitter gradient yet?

The Nail Challenge Collaborative - Pastels Week 2

Friday, April 19, 2013

Good morning! This is my 2nd manicure for The Nail Challenge Collaborative. I went for another simple design and did a straight up polka dot pattern. I've never really attempted to do this before too.

For my base color, I used Hard Candy Sky. Then with a dotting tool, I dotted on Sally Hansen White On to make the polka dot pattern. These pictures were taken before I applied top coat since I was afraid it might smudge the design.

It didn't turn out as bad as I thought. My dots are all different sizes on each nail but I think if I practice more, I can make them more even in size. I think my ring finger turned out the best. What do you think?

The Nail Challenge Collaborative - Pastels Week 1

Wednesday, April 17, 2013

Hey guys! I recently joined The Nail Challenge Collaborative and wanted to participate in their April challenge even though its halfway over. April's theme is pastels and I wanted to try my hands on it. April also marked the 1st year anniversary for the group so I wanted to celebrate with them even though I just joined. I don't have much pastels in my collection so I'll be using lighter colors instead. Hope that's okay.

For my first manicure, I went with a simple design. I used Sally Hansen White On as my base color. Then with a dotting tool, I dotted on Jessica Tangerine Dreamz and within those dots, I dotted on Orly Ancient Jade inside.

I really enjoyed how this manicure turned out. I've been kind of obsessed with my dotting tool since its the only nail art tool I have. What do you think?

OPI Its My Year

Tuesday, April 16, 2013

Hey everyone! The sun is starting to appear more now that the weather here is getting a bit better. I wanted something on my nails that really sparkled in the sunlight so I decided to go with this.

OPI Its My Year is a purple base with a ton of gold foil shimmer. This color is pretty on the nails since its so reflective with the gold shimmer in it. I have three coats on.

I have a couple of similar colors to this where there is a ton of gold foil shimmer. I love these kinds of polishes! What about you?

China Glaze Champagne Bubbles

Monday, April 15, 2013

Good morning! This is the last of my swatches I did a few days ago. I'll be posting more recent manicures I wear from now on and probably more nail art designs too. I also joined a new Facebook nail group where there are monthly challenges to participate in, so I'll be trying that out. Stay tuned!

China Glaze Champagne Bubbles is a metallic yellow gold with small silver glitter. This color is really unique is my collection because I don't have anything similar to it. I applied three coats since my nail line was still visible after two coats.

Lighting is getting wonky so I'll be taking my pictures in different areas. Sometimes one room has better lighting over the other. This time, my room had the better lighting so I took pictures in there.

Sinful Colors Dancing Nails

Sunday, April 14, 2013

Hi guys! Here's another Sinful Colors nail polish I have to show you. Surprisingly, I only have two in my collection but I plan on getting more from this line in the future.

Sinful Colors Dancing Nails is a shimmery metallic rosey pink. Its almost reminds me of a rose gold color but a lot more rosy than gold. This polish is so pretty in the sunlight! It reflects so much and the small shimmer in it makes it really hard not to stare at your nails. This was two coats.

Sinful Colors Folly

Saturday, April 13, 2013

Hello everyone! For the next couple of posts, I'll be showing you guys colors I swatched a few days ago. The weather here is unpredictable so I wanted to make sure I had something up in cause I wasn't able to take pictures. Don't worry though since the colors I'll be showing will be ones I've worn before.

Sinful Colors Folly is a bright pink red creme. The color reminds me of a raspberry but lighter and brighter in shade. The formula and application on the Sinful Colors line is great! One of my favorite drugstore brands. I applied two coats below.

This shade is so perfect for the Spring/Summer season! Its bright but not neon bright. What do you think?

Orly Ancient Jade

Friday, April 12, 2013

Good morning! I was feeling for something lighter on my nails today so I went with a color I've been loving at the moment. Plus, I've been really into a creme finish formula lately.

Orly Ancient Jade is a light jade creme. Its exactly the color I would picture a real jade will look like. This is one of my favorites because its the perfect shade for the Spring season. Application and formula was great. I applied two coats here.

Orly Ancient Jade

Got all my supplies to make a light box but it was kind of a fail. The box I used was a bit too small so it was awkward taking photos. Plus, the light gave me a headache when I was testing it out. So I'll be sticking with what I'm doing right now for the time being until I figure something else out.

What colors have you been loving for the Spring? Let me know since I'm always on the look out for new colors to try.
