Hobby Polish Bloggers May Challenge - Recreate Your Favorite

Friday, May 31, 2013

Good morning! Today, I'm recreating my favorite manicure from this challenge which is the last theme for the Hobby Polish Bloggers May Challenge! There has been a lot of awesome manicures created this month but I chose to recreate the Fashion Inspired Manicure by Kelsey from Polished Prescription. I choose this one because I love the mix of colors and techniques in this particular design. Kelsey got her inspiration from a really funky and colorful outfit from a Marc by Marc Jacobs look.

For my base color, I used Color Club Limelight. To recreate the abstract pink design, I used a dotting tool with Misa Lather, Rinse, Repeat. For the navy blue stripe down the center of each nail, I used OPI Yoga-Ta Get This Blue. Lastly, I used a dotting tool and dotted on dots down the center of each blue stripe with China Glaze Lemon Fizz.

Thank you to Kelsey for creating this manicure and inspiring me to recreate it. I think it turned out pretty good. What do you think?

So, that completes the Hobby Polish Bloggers May Challenge! It was a lot of fun tackling the themes and I hope everyone had a great time seeing the manicures I created. There is a June and July Summer Challenge which I probably will participate in, so stay tuned for that.

Thursday, May 30, 2013

Hello everyone! Today is my 4th and last manicure for the Tri-Polish Challenge hosted by the Crumpet's Nail Tarts. So happy that I was able to complete this challenge since I've been really tired from work. I'll try to participate in next month's challenge if I can. Let's see the manicure I created to end this month's challenge!

Crumpet's Nail Tarts - Tri-Polish Challenge May 4

For my base color, I used American Apparel Downtown LA. Then with my dotting tool, I used American Apparel Echo Park and American Apparel Cameo Blue to create the leopard prints.

I know I've done a leopard print manicure already but there so easy and fun to create. Plus, I did use different colors compared to my last one which gives it a different feel. What do you think?

Hey everyone! I was nominated by the wonderful Amy from Ooh La La Nail's Blog for the Sunshine Award. I want to say a huge thank you to Amy for nominating me. I really appreciate it. Please be sure to check out her blog for some really cute manicures, swatches, and reviews!

The Rules for the Sunshine Award
1. Thank the person who nominated you.
2. Post the award logo on your blog.
3. Share 7 random facts about yourself.
4. Nominate 5 or more other blogs who inspire you.

7 Random Facts About Myself
1. I've never owned a cell phone in my entire life. I've always just used my mom's when I needed one.
2. I'm a huge fan of reality TV shows like Amazing Race, Big Brother, and Survivor.
3. It might not look like it from all the nail polish hauls I post up but I'm more of a saver than a spender in real life. I actually don't like to spend my money on certain things until its absolutely necessary. My only weakness to this as you can probably tell is nail polish.
4. I'm super awkward when I meet new people so its hard for me to make friends fast. Though when you get to know me, I'm a chatterbox and crack a lot of jokes.
5. No one but my family knows that I blog about nail polish. It would be weird just to tell someone I have a nail polish blog out of the blue right?
6. I can spend hours on my computer which I usually do. Any free time is spent doing that.
7. I used to be into makeup a lot but its kind of been pushed back with my new love of nail polish growing.

Polished Elegance - She does some lovely manicures and her photos are so professional looking!

Thank you once again to Amy for nominating me! This was a fun post to write up and I hope everyone enjoyed reading it.

Crumpet's Nail Tarts - Tri Polish Challenge May 3

Tuesday, May 28, 2013

Hey guys! Here's my third manicure for the Tri Polish Challenge hosted by the Crumpet's Nail Tarts. To refresh your memory, the colors for May are blue, grey, and red. I'm using American Apparel colors in Cameo Blue (blue), Downtown LA (red), and Echo Park (grey). Let's see what I created!

Crumpet's Nail Tarts - Tri Polish Challenge May 3

I used Cameo Blue on my pointer and ring finger. For the rest of my nails, I used Downtown LA. Then with a dotting tool, I dotted on irregular shapes randomly on each nail with the opposing color.

Surprisingly, this turned out okay. I was kind of creating this design randomly but I liked how this turned out in the end. It almost looks like some kind of animal print. What do you think?

MSMD: Pastel Skittles and Black & White Polka Dots

Monday, May 27, 2013

Hello everyone! For today's Monkey See Monkey Do post, I'm recreating a manicure by Kayla from Nails by Kayla Shevonne. Its her post on Pastel Skittles and Black & White Polka Dots. I chose this specific manicure because I've never done a skittles design before and the colors are perfect for the season right now. Plus, it looks like a pretty straight forward design that I can do well in recreating.

Starting from with my thumb, I have on Jessica Tangerine Dreamz, China Glaze Lemon Fizz, China Glaze Re-Fresh Mint, American Apparel Coney Island, and Barielle Swizzle Stix. Taking Sally Hansen White On, I blocked off half of my nails with it. Then taking my dotting tool, I used American Apparel Hassid to add polka dots on the white part of my nails.

I really like how this manicure turned out. This was definitely one of the more harder designs I've tried and I'm glad I was able to do this manicure justice for a newbie like myself. What do you think?

Glitter Gradient with Essie Set in Stones

Sunday, May 26, 2013

Hello everyone! This is another really simple nail art design I have to show. I wear this a lot too since its really easy to create. Its the ever so simple glitter gradient! All I do is concentrate the majority of the glitter on the tips of my nails and fade it upwards halfway on my nails. It adds a nice sparkle to any manicure your wearing and you can select any color combinations to wear with it too.

I used Essie Set in Stones which has a mixture of various size silver hexagon glitters in a clear base. This is my only all silver glitter in my collection and I love it! Formula and application was good. I added one full coat on my ring finger just to show how the glitter looks as an accent nail. I layered this over American Apparel Echo Park. I then topped it all off with my OPI Top Coat.

Notice anything different with my pictures? Yes, I finally learned how to watermark my photos in that curved text shape. Its all thanks to Kayla from Nails by Kayla Shevonne's tutorial she did here. I ran into a few issues when I was testing it out but I got it all figured out in the end. What do you think?

I got a few compliments from customers at work with this manicure on so that made me really happy. Have you tried the glitter gradient manicure?

American Apparel Echo Park

Saturday, May 25, 2013

Hey everyone! I've been working four hour shifts this week so I'm not as tired after work as I was before. I haven't had much time to do my nails as I would like but never fear because I have a couple of posts ready in advance. Let's see what I have to show today.

American Apparel Echo Park is a light grey creme. Formula and application was easy to work with. I like that its a straight up grey without any undertones to it. Its also a nice staple color to have in a collection. American Apparel is really impressing me with their nail polishes. There one of my favorite nail polish brands now. I used two coats below.

What do you think of this color? Also, what are some of your favorite greys?

Nostalgic Nail Lacquer Sloth

Friday, May 24, 2013

Morning! For today's post, I'll be showing you one of my favorite combination so far I have posted. Its featuring another indie brand which is awesome since I love supporting indie companies. Let's see what polish I'm talking about!

Nostalgic Nail Lacquer Sloth is a mixture of bronze, gold, orange, and purple glitters in various sizes in a clear base. Really pretty glitter polish to wear for the fall with all the warm colors in it. This particular polish was released in the 7 Deadly Sins Collection. This is two coats over Barielle Swizzle Stix.

I'm so in love with this combination! The warm glitter over the sky blue creme is so pretty. What do you think of this glitter?

Crumpet's Nail Tarts - Tri Polish Challenge May 2

Thursday, May 23, 2013

Hey guys! I'm really happy and tired because I don't have work until Friday. I basically had a four day break from my last shift which was on Sunday. It gives me time to rest as well as swatch some polishes in advance. Anyway, here's my second manicure for the Tri Polish Challenge hosted by the Crumpet's Nail Tarts. Let's see what manicure I created today.

I used American Apparel Echo Park as my base color. Then with a dotting tool, I dotted on American Apparel Dowtown LA and American Apparel Cameo Blue on the side of my nails in a curved shape.

Hobby Polish Bloggers May Challenge - Beach Inspired

Wednesday, May 22, 2013

Hey everyone! Here's my beach inspired manicure for the Hobby Polish Bloggers May Challenge. I've never really been to the beach so when I think of one, I usually think of how blue and clear the sky is. Occasionally there will be some birds flying around too. So, I decided to create a manicure based on this vision I  have of the beach.

I started with a sky blue creme using Barielle Swizzle Stix to represent the sky. Then with my dotting tool, I used Sally Hansen White On to create some fluffy clouds and with American Apparel Hassid, I created some simple birds flying in the horizon.

I think it turned out pretty good even though the little birds are kind of wonky looking. What do you think of my beach inspired manicure?

Crumpet's Nail Tarts - Tri Polish Challenge May 1

Tuesday, May 21, 2013

Hello everyone! This month, I'm participating in my first Tri Polish Challenge hosted by the Crumpet's Nail Tarts. The rules are simple: your only allowed to use three colors chosen for each month and to make four manicures out of them. At least one manicure has to include all three colors and the rest has to include at least two colors. Your also allowed free use of white, black, silver, gold, and glitter toppers. Debbie from The Crumpet has a great post explaining the rules here.

The colors for May are blue, grey, and red. For the three colors, I chose to use all American Apparel polishes. I chose to use Cameo Blue (blue), Downtown LA (red), and Echo Park (grey).

American Apparel

I came up with a pretty simple manicure. I used Cameo Blue as my base color and then I applied Downtown LA in the middle to make a stripe. Taking Echo Park, I used my dotting tool to create some dots inside the red stripe.

MSMD: Rainbow Galaxy Nails

Monday, May 20, 2013

Happy Monday! Sorry for not posting a Monkey See Monkey Do post last week but I have one this week. For today's manicure, I got inspired by TotallyCoolNails to recreate her Rainbow Galaxy Nail Art. I've seen a lot of other nail bloggers do galaxy nails as well so it made me want to try it out for myself.

For my base color, I used OPI Suzi & The 7 Dusseldorfs. Then I sponged on Sally Hansen White On randomly on each nail to help all the other colors appear more opague. After that's dried, I sponged on Sinful Color Folly, Jessica Tangerine Dreamz, American Apparel Manila, Orly Ancient Jade, and American Apparel Cameo Blue. Then taking Sally Hansen White On again, I dotted on white dots to create the effect of stars. Lastly, I applied Del Sol Ruby Slipper for some sparkle and topped it off with my OPI Top Coat for shine.

Rainbow Galaxy Nails

The glitter I applied on top was a bit too dense so it kind of coated my nails too much. Other than that, I think it turned out pretty good. Its much lighter than I originally intended it to be though. What do you think of my rainbow galaxy nails?

Barielle Swizzle Stix

Sunday, May 19, 2013

Morning everyone! My part time job is totally taking up my free time. I'm being called to work on days I don't work and my schedule is always changing times. I'm happy to be earning money but I'm getting so tired and sore after being unemployed for about 2 years. My bones are rusty. At least I need have a day in between schedules to rest and not all my shifts are 8 hours. Well, let's see what polish I have to show today!

Barielle Swizzle Stix is a baby blue creme. I really love this blue, almost reminds me of the color of the sky. Its has a very light and airy feeling to it. Formula and application was good though I have to say the first coat I applied was kind of sheer. It's easy to build the color up though. I recommend to either apply two thick coats or three thin coats for full coverage on the nails. This is three coats below.

Barielle Swizzle Stix

Though its kind of sheer, I still enjoy the color a lot. This is my first Barielle polish I've tried and I'm really liking them so far. What do you think of this color?

Darling Diva Polish 13th Colony

Saturday, May 18, 2013

Hey everyone! Today, I'm going to show you all another indie polish I own. The majority of my indie collection consists of glitters because they have such unique combinations compared to more main stream brands. This one is no exception so let's see what polish I have to show.

Darling Diva Polish 13th Colony is a mixture of blue, green, copper, and white glitters in various sizes in a clear base. The white glitters have a matte finish while everything else has a shiny finish. Formula was on the thicker side but it was easy to work with and the glitter coverage was pretty dense too. I used one coat over Finger Paints Tough Art To Follow.

I can see myself layering this glitter over a lot of lighter or darker colors. What do you think of this glitter?

Finger Paints Tough Art To Follow

Hello everyone! Since I'm earning a bit of income from my new part time job, I'm planning on getting myself a Melmer from Michael's soon. Since there's so few Micheal's located where I live, I hope the one I go to has them in stock. Plus, I need to convince my brother to go with me so he can help me carry it back home. Keeping my fingers crossed! Let's see what polish I have to show today though.

Finger Paints Tough Art To Follow is a dark almost black green creme. The finish on this reminds me of a squishy jelly polish. Formula was a bit on the watery side so first coat was sheer. For darker colors like this, I expected it to be more opague so I was disappointed that it wasn't. I'm not sure if its just me but from the pictures below, it also seems to have not applied evenly on my nails. I have three coats on.

Hobby Polish Bloggers May Challenge - Nature Inspired

Thursday, May 16, 2013

Hey everyone! Here's my nature inspired manicure for Hobby Polish Bloggers May Challenge. When I think of nature, I usually associate flowers with it so I decided to do a floral manicure. My last floral manicure wasn't the best so I wanted to try my hand at it again.

For my base color, I used Color Club Ho-Ho-Holly. Then I used a dotting tool and dotted on Color Cub Berry and Bright and Color Club Winter Affair to create the little flowers.

I think the flowers turned out pretty good compared to my first floral manicure. This manicure feels more fall appropriate but its still really nice to wear right now for me since the weather here is still rainy some days. What do you think of my nature inspired manicure?
