Step Into Summer Challenge - Inspired by the Pool

Sunday, June 30, 2013

Good morning! Here's another theme I completed for the Step Into Summer Challenge hosted by the Hobby Polish Bloggers. Today, I'm doing a manicure inspired by the pool. I had no idea what to do so I went with something simple. I decided to recreate the pool water on my nails. Here's the picture I drew inspiration from.

Pool Water

Let's see how this translated on my nails!

Saran Wrap Nails
Juelp, Essie, OPI, Sephora by OPI, Seche Vite

First, I applied Julep Nail Therapy as my base coat. For my base color, I used Essie Borrowed & Blue. After that's completely dry, I used the saran wrap method to dab on OPI Suzi Says Feng Shui and Sephora by OPI Blue Grotto. Lastly, I applied my Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat to smooth out my manicure and to add some shine.

I love how easy the saran wrap technique was! The effect it created on my nails is so pretty and it totally reminds me of water. What do you think of this manicure?

American Apparel Downtown LA

Saturday, June 29, 2013

Hello everyone! Work has been keeping me super busy. I have the most shifts scheduled I feel out of all the new hires. I think its because I'm available at any time since I don't have school to attend this summer. Its great earning an income but I'm always so tired when I wake up now. Well, let's see what I have today!

American Apparel Downtown LA is the perfect bright red creme. I think this has to be my favorite red at the moment. Its not too dark or too light in shade and its a true red. Formula and application was great. Its so pigmented that I only needed one coat to achieve full coverage on the nails. This one coat below.

This is such a flattering shade of bright red on my nails. I feel like I'm collecting all of the American Apparel polishes I can get my hands on. I have so much colors from them since they work really well for me. What do you think of this color?

Step Into Summer Challenge - Inspired by a Bathing Suit

Friday, June 28, 2013

Good morning! I'm continuing with another theme for the Step Into Summer Challenge hosted by the Hobby Polish Bloggers today. This theme is inspired by a bathing suit. I went to Google and searched for a bathing suit to draw inspiration from. I stumbled across this one that I really liked a lot.

Its so vintage and cute right? Let's see how it turned out on my nails!

Cherry Nails
American Apparel, OPI, China Glaze, dotting tool

For my base color, I used American Apparel Hassid. Taking OPI Ali's Big Break, I dotted on dots with my dotting tool to represent the cherries. Then with China Glaze Exotic Encounters, I used my dotting tool to create the stems and leaves. Seeing that the red I used wasn't showing up really bright, I took American Apparel Poppy and dotted dots on top of my previous red dots to make the color pop off the nails more.

I'm disappointed with how this turned out. This was such a fail manicure to me. The stems and leaves turned out really bad since I was using a dotting tool to create them. Not the best I've done but I gave it my best try. What do you think of this manicure?

Step Into Summer Challenge - Favorite Summer Fruit

Thursday, June 27, 2013

Good morning! Today, I will be showing everyone my favorite summer fruit in my manicure for the Step Into Summer Challenge hosted by the Hobby Polish Bloggers. I decided to go with watermelons because when I think of summer, I always associate eating a cold watermelon during this time of the year. Let's see how what I created!

Watermelon Nails
American Apparel, OPI, Sally Hansen, dotting tool

The colors I used to create my watermelon nails are American Apparel Downtown LA, OPI Jade is the New Black, Sally Hansen White On, American Apparel Hassid, and American Apparel Office. I also used my dotting tool to create the seeds and the lines on the outside of the watermelon.

I really liked how my ring finger turned out even though the design is just the outside of the watermelon. This was fun to create and it would be perfect to sport on a hot summer day. What do you think of my fruit inspired manicure?

Sally Hansen Lavender Cloud

Wednesday, June 26, 2013

Hey everyone! I've been quite productive for the past few days. I finally got my hands on some melmers to organize my collection in and I've been swatching my polishes on nail sticks. I've been doing some nail art manicures for a few challenges as well as writing up some posts in advance. Its been a while since I've been this busy in my free time. Anyways, let's see what I have to show today!

Sally Hansen Lavender Cloud is an extremely light pastel lavender purple creme. This polish almost looks white except for the touch of purple to it. Formula was on the watery side so it tends to want to flood the cuticle area so I had to be extra careful when applying the color. I applied two coats below.

I like how this color is almost white but its not quite there with the touch of purple to it. Great to wear on the nails if your not a fan of just wearing a stark white. What do you think of this color?

The Nail Challenge Collaborative - Neon Week 4

Tuesday, June 25, 2013

Good morning! I went with a zebra print for my last neon manicure for The Nail Challenge Collaborative. I loved my leopard print manicures so much that I decided I needed to do another animal print. They look pretty simple so I wanted to give them a shot. Let's see how it turned out!

Neon Zebra Nails

For my base color, I used Color Club Amp'd Up. Taking my smallest dotting tool, I used American Apparel Hassid to create the lines for the zebra print.

I think it turned out really nice for my first zebra print manicure. The lines weren't as thin and smooth as I wanted them to be but I think it adds character to it. What do you think?

Essie Borrowed & Blue

Monday, June 24, 2013

Happy Monday! After much procrastination, I finally convinced my brother to go to Micheals with me today! *does a happy dance* I'll be picking up two melmers since there's a deal this week with buy one get one free on their storage items. I'll post an update on my Facebook page when I get them. Anyways, let's see what blue polish I have to show!

Essie Borrowed & Blue is a light pastel blue creme. Formula and application was good, though the first coat was a little streaky. I really like this color because it makes my hands look like I have a tan when I wear it. The brush on the Essie bottle is on the smaller side so it was hard getting enough polish on the brush when I was applying the color. I used two coats below.

I can see why this is a favorite among the beauty community. For a lighter shade, the formula was really nice compared to others I've tried. What do you think of this color?

Spoiled by Wet n' Wild Plastic Flamingo

Sunday, June 23, 2013

Happy Sunday! I have work this morning so I'm just going to get right into what color I have to show today.

Spoiled by Wet n' Wild Plastic Flamingo is a bright pink creme. Formula was on the thicker side but it was easy to work with. The brush is bigger than what I'm used to but I was still able to get good control with it . This color feels almost like a jelly polish since the formula looks translucent but its much more opague than one. This color dries really shiny so a top coat isn't needed for that added shine. I have two coats on.

This color reminds me so much of a neon but it doesn't dry to that matte finish of one. Its such a fun and bright color though! I really like it. What do you think of this color?

Color Club Limelight and Amp'd Up

Friday, June 21, 2013

Good morning! I'm thinking of changing up my photos a bit. So, that means trying out new hand positions and changing around how each photos look. I want my photos to be longer in width and shorter in height. I'll probably try and take some new photos and edit them differently sometime next week. Anyways, let's see what I have to show today!

Color Club Limelight is a darker neon green. The formula on this was pretty watery so I needed quite a few coats to make it opague. Each coat dried pretty fast so building the color was easy. You can also layer this color over a white base to lessen the number of coats you have to apply too. This is four coats below.

Color Club Amp'd Up is a bright warm neon orange with a hint of red to it. Formula and application on this was great. Better than the other neon I own from Color Club. This color absolutely pops off the nails and its a great shade for summer. It was hard to photograph though since what your seeing below isn't exactly what the color looks like in real life. I applied three coats.

Color Club Amp'd Up
Color Club Amp'd Up
Color Club Amp'd Up

Both are nice neon colors but the green isn't my favorite. Even after all those coats, my nail line was still visible. Like most neon colors, both dried kind of matte so a top coat is definitely needed if you want a glossy finish on them.

What are some of your neon recommendations? Also, what do you think of these two colors? Let me know below if you guys like having more than one color swatched for a post too!

Step Into Summer Challenge - Neon

Thursday, June 20, 2013

Hello! Here's another manicure for the Step Into Summer Challenge hosted by the Hobby Polish Bloggers. For the neon theme, I decided to go with a paint splatter manicure. I didn't have a straw on hand so I couldn't create a real splatter design though. Instead, I did a controlled splatter which was inspired by Kayla from Nails by Kayla Shevonne. She did a Rainbow Splatter. Let's see how mine turned out!

Neon Paint Splatter Nails

For my base color I used Sally Hansen White On. For the neon splatters, I used Misa Lather, Rinse, Repeat, Color Club Amp'd Up, and Color Club Limelight. I dotted big blob on my nails and taking my dotting tool, pulled the blobs to make a splatter shape. Then I dotted some random dots around it.

This is such a fun manicure! I really liked how it turned out and I'm excited to try this out with different colors too. What do you think of my manicure?
