Neon Sponging and Gradient

Wednesday, February 12, 2014

Here is my first manicure for this month's summer theme for The Nail Challenge Collaborative. I didn't know what to do for this theme so I decided on some bright neon manicures. I think the summer season is the perfect time to wear them.

American Apparel, Salon Perfect, Sally Hansen

I started with Salon Perfect Sugar Cube on my ring and middle nail. With American Apparel Neon Yellow, American Apparel Neon Green, American Apparel Neon Orange, and American Apparel Neon Coral, I randomly sponged on the colors on the white nails. For the rest of the nails, I did a gradient with the neon polishes. Finished with Sally Hansen Diamond Flash Top Coat.

Unfortunately, the gradients didn't turn out as smooth as I wanted them to be. I'm happy with the sponged nails though. What do you think of this manicure?

  1. This is so pretty, I especially love the spongy look of the middle two :) Talk about getting ready for summer! Have you reviewed Diamond Flash in the past? I'm always interested in how the millions of SH topcoats compare to one another. I'm still on the hunt for the highest gloss top coat in all the land, so always looking for recommendations :)

    1. Thanks Amy! :) I actually just purchased the Diamond Flash so I'm still testing whether I like it or not. Would you like me to do a review on it? I've heard that the Insta-Dry and Mega Shine from Sally Hansen are the best ones from other people's reviews. You can check those two out if your in the hunt for an affordable top coat.

  2. Neon polishes definitely make me think of summer! I find it easier to do gradients with shimmery polishes... since the base is kind of jelly like it's easier to blend... plus the shimmer will distract from any roughness in the gradient :)

    1. Yeah, neons are great for summer! Thanks for the tip! I've actually never attempted a gradient with shimmery polishes, only cremes so far. I'll have to give it a try then :)

  3. I actually liked the unevenness of the gradients....they remind me of those fruit snow cone slushy things. :)
