Contrasting Stripey Nails

Thursday, March 6, 2014

This was inspired by The Dalai Lama's Nails after seeing her stripey nails post. She actually did a video tutorial for it too called stripey tutorial. I've been really into using the fan brush for nail art designs so after seeing her tutorial, I was motivated to try this design out. This was my first time trying a matte top coat on my nails and I like the result a lot.

Spoiled by Wet n' Wild, Essence, Born Pretty Store, Sally Hansen, NYC

I started with Spoiled by Wet n' Wild Plastic Flamingo. Taking Essence Break Through, I took a fan brush to apply the color horizontally and then vertically on the nails. I drew two crooked horizontal and vertical lines on the nail tips with Born Pretty Store Sweet Color Black Nail Art Liner. Use coupon code YCL91 for 10% off your entire order. I applied Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Top Coat and then NYC Matte Me Crazy Mattifying Top Coat.

This didn't turn out as good as the original but I like the overall look regardless. Sad that the purple shade didn't really show up that well against the pink and that I smudged the black lines when I was applying top coat. What do you think of this stripey manicure?

  4. I really like the way these came out! I like how the lines across your nails are angled rather straight across think it adds interest :)

  7. Nice! I love how regular the lines look. If this was my manicure, they'd be all sorts of thicknesses.

  8. I like it a lot! The subtlety of the purple against the pink makes it look like Venetian plaster, to me.
