Here's my fourth and last manicure for The Nail Challenge Collaborative. This month's theme is inspired by music, movies, and TV shows. Another favorite TV show that I've been watching for a while is The Vampire Dairies so I wanted to do a nail art inspired by it.
I started with American Apparel Mannequin on all the nails. Taking a straw, I did a splatter design using American Apparel Downtown LA, OPI Off with Her Red!, and American Apparel Hassid. For the ring nail, I made two bite vampire bite marks using a combination of the polishes I've already used with a dotting tool. Finished with Sally Hansen Diamond Insta-Dri Top Coat.
This is my first try at a splatter design and I think I did okay. As you can see, some of the splatters didn't turn out that great like the one on the pinky. I did have a hard time cleaning up around the nail as you can probably tell since the red was kind of staining my cuticle area. What do you think of my first attempt at a splatter manicure?

I think you did a great job! The contrast of the mostly black pinky nail is visually very effective. Looking across your nails from the index finger down to the pinky, the presence of the black progresses and gets stronger. The pinky nail is the period at the end of the sentence!
ReplyDeleteThank you Liz! I'm happy to hear you like them, makes me happy to know that :)
DeleteThis is pretty cool. I would love to do it for Halloween this year!
ReplyDeleteThanks Megan! It really is perfect for Halloween too.
DeleteYou did great! That's the best part of splatters, I think - it's so imprecise, and you never know exactly what you're going to get, but it still looks freaking awesome.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I guess your right about that too.
DeleteAwesome first time!! I always end up with a few fingers that don't splatter quite right. So trust me, that's always a problem. I really love this. Perfect vampire colours. And the teeth marks are so creepy!
ReplyDeleteYou did me proud girl! :)
Thanks Gio for advice! Its nice to hear that's how it is with splatters then.
Deleteso cool I love splatter manis :)
ReplyDeleteThank you! There pretty cool :)
DeleteI really like the way these turned out! I've never done a splatter mani before because I was scared of the mess... getting polish all over my table and cuticles lol. I love the random pattern this technique creates! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks! It definitely is messy so I laid down some newspaper so the polish didn't go all over my table. If I decide to do this again, I'm going to tape around my nails to prevent less mess too.
DeleteThose look seriously gory in a good way. Nice job!
ReplyDeleteThank you! That was what I was aiming for too.
DeleteI almost didn't notice the bites, those are so cool!
ReplyDeleteThanks Alexandria!
DeleteThose look amazing! Good Job!
ReplyDeleteYour nails are looking so beautiful! :D And I love splatter manis - your came out cool: just the right amount of gore ;)
ReplyDeleteps. can't believe how neatly you managed to clean up - wow! :D
DeleteThanks Mina! It took me a while to clean up but I did my best at it.
Deleteoh my gosh, I LOVE the Vampire Diaries!!!! Lovely mani, I think it represents it very well!!
ReplyDeleteAwesome to find another fan of the show then! Thanks Gosia! :)
DeleteSo creative, I love it!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteLooks fantastic to me! I get put off from doing this technique because of the clean up :(
ReplyDeleteI used to love this show but haven't caught up on the last season or so :)
Mands @ The Bookish Manicurist
Thanks and yeah the cleanup is one of the reasons why I haven't attempted to do one until now. Its nice to know another person who's watched the show though.
